A native of Tazewell, Tennessee, she received her master's degree in nursing from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Her interests include pediatrics and preventive health, and she has served on the board of the Good Shepherd Free Medical Clinic and of Hospice of Laurens County. She is married and has three children. She enjoys shopping and activities with her family.
